The Anonymous HIV Test kit we use is the OraQuick ADVANCE Rapid HIV 1/2. The test kit detects antibodies to HIV-1 and HIV-2 in 20 minutes. The OraQuick HIV test is an oral swab kit. It’s quick and easy. Absolutely no blood specimen is taken.

New Quality Standard to encourage HIV Testing

Adults and young individuals should be offered HIV testing in case of admission to hospital or visit to an emergency department, or getting a blood test in these settings in areas of very high HIV prevalence.

Adults and young individuals in areas of high or very high HIV prevalence should be offered HIV testing when registering to a GP practice or when having a blood test if they have not taken an HIV test in the last 12 months.

Adults and young individuals newly diagnosed with an HIV indicator condition should be offered an HIV test.

Adults and young individuals at high risk who test negative for HIV should be asked to repeat the test at least annually.

Individuals with a suspected exposure to HIV through a person newly diagnosed with HIV should be offered an HIV test.

Research:  The HIV oral fluid test was highly accurate with sensitivity of 100% (95% CI; 94.5-100.0), specificity of 100% (95% CI; 99.0-100.0), positive predictive value (PPV) of 100% (95% CI; 94.5-100.0) and negative predictive value (NPV) of 100% (95% CI; 99.0-100.0). Acceptability of HIV oral testing was also high at 87.0% (95% CI; 83.6-89.9). Participants preferred HIV oral testing because it was: pain free (91%, n = 399) and did not require blood draw (82%, n = 360).    Source:  PubMed 

Research : Assessment of Oral Fluid OraQuick HIV Test in a Bangkok trial showed that OraQuick Test yielded a sensitivity of 99.5% , specificity of 99.7%, positive predictive value of 97.8% and a negative predictive value of 99.9%   Source: PubMed
